Menu Items

Menu items are the dishes and drinks guests can order. Each item has a price, a category, a dietary type, and a tax class.

Who can do this:OwnerAdminStaff can view the list.

Open Menu under Menu Setup in the sidebar.

Before You Start

Create your categories and check your tax classes first. An item needs a category before you can make it active, and it needs a tax class to be taxed correctly.

Add an Item

  1. Select Add item.
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Item Name: what guests see, for example Margherita Pizza.
    • Description: ingredients, portion size, or spice level. Guests can search by description too.
    • Images: select Add image, then choose a photo. You can add up to 5 photos per item. Each photo must be a JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF under 5 MB.
    • Price: in your restaurant's currency. Use the decimals your currency allows, for example 249.00 for INR or 1200 for JPY.
    • Category: required before the item can go live.
    • Item Type: Veg, Non-Veg, Egg, or Vegan. Guests see a colored marker for each type and can filter by it.
    • Status: Draft, Active, or Archived. See the table below.
    • Available: tick it when the kitchen can serve the item today.
    • Featured: tick it to show a Popular badge on the guest menu.
    • Taxable and Tax Class: leave Taxable ticked for items that carry tax, and pick the class. Your default tax class is preselected. Untick Taxable for items with no tax.
  3. Select Save.

Offer Choices on an Item

Open the three-dot menu on an item and select Add-ons to offer choices such as size, toppings, or spice level, each with its own price. See Add-ons and Options.

Item Status

StatusWhat it means
DraftHidden from guests. Use it while you write the description and add photos.
ActiveLive on the guest menu. Requires a category.
ArchivedHidden from guests and kept for your records. Use it for seasonal or retired items.

Available or Sold Out

Available controls whether guests can order the item right now. Guests still see an unavailable active item, with a Sold out label and no way to add it. Untick Available when you run out during service and tick it again when you restock. This is faster than changing the status, and the item keeps its place on the menu.

Find Items

Use the search box to find items by name, description, or category. Use the filter buttons to narrow the list:

  • Category: items in one or more categories.
  • Type: Veg, Non-Veg, Egg, or Vegan.
  • Status: Draft, Active, or Archived.
  • Availability: Available or Unavailable.

Select the Item, Price, or Added column header to sort.

Edit an Item

Select the three-dot menu at the end of the row, then Edit. Change any field and select Save. Price changes apply to new orders only. Orders that were already placed keep the price they were placed at.

Delete an Item

Select the three-dot menu, then Delete, and confirm. Deleting is permanent and removes the item from the guest menu at once. Past orders and invoices keep the item name and price they recorded. To keep the item for later, set its status to Archived instead.
