Live Sessions
A session is one visit at one table, from the first order to the bill. All orders placed during the visit, whether by the guest or by your staff, belong to the same session. When the guests leave, you close the session and bill every order together.
Open Live Sessions under Workspace in the sidebar.
Read the Table Board
The page shows one card per table and updates on its own as guests order.
- Active (green): the table has a session running. The card shows when it started and how many orders are still being prepared. Select the card to open the session.
- Inactive (grey): no one is seated. The card says Tap to start service.
- Greyed out: the table is set to inactive on the Tables page and cannot take orders.
How a Session Starts
A session starts in one of two ways:
- A guest orders: when the first order from a table's QR code comes in, a session opens by itself.
- You start it: select an inactive table card, then select Start Session in the confirmation window. Do this when guests sit down and you want to take their order yourself.
Inside a Session
The session page shows every order of the visit, grouped by status: Pending, Preparing, Ready, Completed, and Cancelled. New orders appear as they come in. Use the buttons on each order card to move it along, exactly like on the Live Orders board. See Orders.
Place an Order for Guests
Take an order at the table and enter it yourself:
- Select Place order.
- Search the menu on the left and select Add next to each item. Use the plus and minus buttons to change quantities, up to 99 of one item. Items with add-ons show Customize instead, which opens a window to pick the options. See Add-ons and Options.
- Check the Order summary on the right. The total shown is approximate. Tax and charges are added when the order is placed.
- Under Charges, keep the charges this order should carry. The ones set to Apply to staff orders are ticked for you. See Service Charges.
- Enter the Guest name. Phone and Notes for the kitchen are optional.
- Select Place Order.
The order appears in the session with the source Staff, so you can tell it apart from orders guests placed themselves.
Close the Session
When the guests are ready to pay:
- Select Close session.
- The window checks the orders:
- If any order is still Pending, Preparing, or Ready, you must complete or cancel it first. The window tells you how many are open.
- If completed orders have not been invoiced yet, the window lists them with the total and asks you to confirm the Customer name. Phone, email, tax number, and notes are optional. The details fill in from the orders. If different orders carry different names, the window asks you to pick one.
- If every order is already invoiced or cancelled, the session closes without an invoice.
- Select Close & invoice or Close session.
When an invoice is created, you land on it to record the payment. See Invoices and Payments and Refunds. The table returns to Inactive, ready for the next guests.
Sessions Do Not Close Themselves
A session stays open until you close it. If a table shows Active long after the guests left, open it and close the session. The next order from that table then starts a fresh session.
